Poros -
Kefalonia
Poros,
the largest market town of east Cefalonia, 35km from Argostoli.
Poros is a small, beautiful town with many supermarkets, gift
shops, restaurants, fish taverns, cafeterias and bars (no disco).
Poros is built on a narrow coastal strip of land bound on both
ends by the estuaries of Vohina, the Homeric Reithro and the
remains of the ancient Pronnean port. Despite its raggedness, the
narrow gorge on the northwestern side of the town offers the
easiest gateway to the interior. Poros is the ferry port with
regular services to Killini. With endless clean beaches and
numerous archaeological sites including the Mycenaean vaulted tomb
at Roghi Tzannaton, the monastery at Mt. Atros - the mountainous
landscape racing down to meet the crystal waters and the warm
welcome of the locals - ideal for a memorable holiday. |
