Argostoli - Kefalonia
Argostoli, the capital of the island of Cefalonia, is built amphitheatrically
with warmth and style. Located on the side of a gently sloping
hill which reaches down to the biggest natural harbour in the
Mediterranean Sea and lagoon of Koutavos that faces the
fir-covered Mt. Ainos.
Argostoli is the main
economical, administrative, social and cultural center of the
island with an important historical and cultural tradition.
The
Folklore and Archaeological museums must be visited to see the civilization
and traditions of the Cefalonians through the years
and the enormous Korialenios Library houses over 100,000 books
detailing the history of Cefalonia in many different languages.
Along the harbor front you can
find the biggest fruit and vegetable market imaginable with a huge
variety of fresh products. Fishing boats come in early in the
morning where you can buy fresh fish off the boat, from Sardines
to large fish, shrimps and lobsters, all at very reasonable
prices.
Around the central square are numerous bars, restaurants,
a
bouzouki club and a short distance away nightclubs. |
